ONEONTA, Ala. --- Battling windy and cold conditions at Limestone Springs Golf Club on Monday, the Samford women’s golf team carded a two-round score of 614 (305-309) to finish the opening day of competition at the Samford Intercollegiate in third place. South Alabama leads the two-day tournament with a 36-hole score of 600 (304-296), while Jacksonville State is currently ranked second (306-303 = 609).

Samford was paced Monday by seniors Heather Arnold and Katelyn Stanier. Both Bulldogs tallied identical scores of 150 (76-74) and concluded the second round of play deadlocked in a two-way tie for ninth place in the individual standings.

Sara Hunt, Samford’s senior from Columbia, Tenn., turned in the team’s best round Monday as she fired a 73 to open the tournament with a 1-over-par score following the first 18 holes of play. Hunt finished the competition with a 36-hole mark of 153 (73-80).

Rounding out the Bulldogs’ scores Monday were sophomore Sarah Butts and true freshman Anna Heim. Butts turned in a two-round tally of 161 (80-81), while Heim followed closely with a 162 (81-81).

South Alabama’s Fanny Eineren leads the individual standings with a 36-hole score of 5-under-par 139. She opened the tournament with a low-round mark of 69 and then followed up that performance with a 2-under-par 70.

The Samford University women’s golf team will resume play in the 2010 Samford Intercollegiate on Tuesday at 9 a.m. (CST) as the 10-team tournament will begin with a shotgun start at the Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala.
