CofC's Casey Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston's Kinsey Casey has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches March 1-7 the league office announced Wednesday (March 10).  Casey went 2-0 last week as the Cougars posted wins over Western Carolina (7-0) and Charlotte (7-0) Saturday.  The Player of the Week is awarded by the conference office.

Casey began the day teaming with Irene Viana at No. 3 doubles as the Cougars' tandem topped Western Carolina's duo of Emily Turke and Izabella Glinska, 8-1.  In singles competition, Casey picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz at No. 4 singles.

Later that afternoon against Charlotte, Casey was paired with Keely Mulligan at No. 2 doubles and earned an 8-0 win over Gabi Vergara and Anna Ekelund.  The Alpharetta, Ga., native scored a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Andrea Rivera at the No. 2 singles position to improve her singles record to 4-2 this spring.

The Cougars return to action Wednesday afternoon when they host Wake Forest.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Davidson's Virginia Berry, Elon's Elisa Simonetti and Georgia Southern's Ashley Hungerford.
