Chattanooga, Elon Complete JMU Invitational

Mocs End Up 8th at JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational

Emma de Groot (2nd) and Maju Loza (7th) finish in top 10

 

JACKSONVILLE, Fla..---Chattanooga’s women’s golf team completed the three-day JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational in eighth place at Eagle Landing at Oakley Plantation.  Two Mocs, Emma de Groot (2nd) and Maria Juliana Loza (T7th), finished in the top 10.

 

de Groot’s one-over par 217 placed her three shots behind Hailey Koschmann of Illinois who claimed medalist honors at 214 (-2).  Loza’s seventh-place finish (224) is the second best of her career.

 

It is the 16th top 10 of de Groot’s career, while Loza now has two.  It’s also the low 54-hole total for each in 2009-2010.

 

USF won the team title as its final round 299 ended its tourney at 898.  Illinois finished second at 904, while Central Arkansas ended up third at 906.

 

Moa Duf completed her 54 holes tied for 50th at 234.  Christine Wolf and Katie Taylor rounded out the Mocs scoring at 243 and 253, respectively.

 

Abby Bools of ECU finished third at four-over par 220.  Loza tied for seventh with three others at eight over.

 

The Mocs return to the course March 22-23 at the John/Kirk Panther Intercollegiate in Atlanta.

Phoenix Finishes JMU Invite in Tie for Ninth

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The Elon women's golf team carded a final round 307 on its way to a ninth-place tie with Kansas State with a total score of 920 (315-298-307) in the 17-team field at the JMU Eagle Landing Invite on Tuesday.  Diana Davis was Elon's top performer, placing in a tie for 11th individually with a three-round score of 226 (76-77-73).
 
Davis was Elon's top player in the field on the final day, firing a 73, her lowest round of the three-round tournament.  The other four Phoenix golfers all posted a final round score of 78.
 
Tara McFadden's 230 (81-71-78) put her in a tie for 24th while Kelsey Johnson sat in a 32nd-place tie just one stroke back at 231 (78-75-78).  With a three-round score of 233 (80-75-78), Lauren Lebak tied for 43rd.  Finally, Dani Mullin's 241 (86-77-78) placed her 73rd in the field of 96.
 
South Florida shot a 299 during its final round to overtake Central Arkansas for the team title.  The Bulls finished with a three-round score of 898 (303-296-299).  Illinois placed second with a 904 (308-294-302) while Central Arkansas dropped to third at 906 (299-297-310).  Kennesaw State's  907 (304-307-296) was good enough for fourth while East Carolina (311-303-301) and Stetson (305-304-306) tied for fifth at 915.
 
Elon finished just two strokes back of 33rd-ranked Chattanooga in the team standings.  The Lady Mocs posted a tournament score of 918 (316-295-307).
 
The Phoenix finished ahead of programs such as host James Madison (316-307-307--930), Jacksonville (312-308-316--936) and High Point (329-329-343--1001).
 
Elon will be back in action this weekend at the Lowcountry Invitational hosted by Wofford in Hilton Head, S.C.
