ASU's Ramirez Tabbed Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State junior Sam Ramirez averaged 17.5 points and shot better than 56 percent from three-point range in two wins last week and has been selected the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games February 2-8.

The guard from Fayetteville, N.C., made all ten of her free throw attempts in the Mountaineers' two league victories. She also added eight assists, four steals and four rebounds.

In the 73-54 win at Elon, Ramirez recorded 12 points and was one of only five ASU players to score in double figures. She was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. With the win, the Mountaineers remain undefeated on the road in league play.

Against Western Carolina, Ramirez tied her career-high with 23 points while shooting 8-of-15 from the field. She also dished out five assists and tallied three steals. Ramirez was 3-for-5 from behind the arc and was the only Mountaineer to connect on a three-pointer in the game. Appalachian State won 73-59 and claimed its seventh-straight victory.

The Mountaineers return to action Saturday when they travel to league-leading Chattanooga before continuing their road trip with a visit to Samford Monday.

Other top performers included Chattanooga's Jenaya Wade-Fray, College of Charleston's Jade Hughes, Elon's Kelsey Evans, Samford's Alex Crow, Western Carolina's Kristen Feemster and Wofford's Kathlyn Varno.
