The Citadel - Vince Brown Invitational
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Freshman Micah Wessinger reset the school record in the 800m while redshirt senior Sarah Strickland improved the school record in the mile as the Bulldogs competed in the Christopher Newport Classic on Saturday.
Wessinger recorded a time of 2:18.59 for fourth place, improving her personal-best. Wessinger previously held the school record in the 800m when she ran a time of 2:19.82 on Jan. 29.
Strickland improved her personal-best and the school record in the mile when she posted a time of 5:18.12 to finish seventh overall. Strickland beat her 2008 school record time of 5:19.45.
Sarah Creel advanced to the finals of the 55m dash when she recorded a prelim time of 7.64 seconds. Then she established a personal-best time of 7.61 seconds to finish 11th overall, earning the eighth all-time record.
In the 20lb. weight throw, Monique Edwards placed third with a throw of 51' 0.25" and Emily Green finished seventh with a mark of 46' 7.50". Anna Fuzy added her name to the record books when she threw a mark of 37' 2.50" for ninth place to earn the eighth all-time spot in The Citadel's top 10 list.
Kevin Hardy and Christian Graham advanced to the finals with personal-best times in the 55m dash. They ran a prelim time of 6.44 seconds and 6.57 seconds, respectively. In the finals, Hardy finished sixth with a time of 6.49 seconds and Graham ran 6.60 seconds for 11th place. Hardy's prelim time tied eight all-time with Charles McAfee's 1984 record at VMI.
Graham also finished ninth in the 200m dash with a time of 23.06 seconds and Hardy competed in the long jump finishing second with a mark of 22' 9.25".
Freshman David Miller placed third in the 400m dash with a time of 50.91 while Frankie Dioguardi ran 2:01.57 in the 800m to finish ninth overall.
Brendan Kight finished ninth with a time of 4:26.20 in the mile run and Herbert Johnson ran his first ever collegiate race in the 5,000m when he ran a time of 15:46.77, falling just shy of the 10th all-time record.
James Harris tied his personal-best when he jumped 6' 4.25" in the high jump, finishing fifth overall.
In the 35lb. weight throw, Chris Castagno placed third with a mark of 50' 2.50" and Matt Earls broke his personal-best record and moved into the sixth all-time spot after he threw 49' 3.75" for fifth place. William Norris also broke his personal-best record with a mark of 43' 4.25". Earls joins Castagno and Quintin Turner in the Bulldogs' 15m club, with all throwing 15m or better in the weight throw this indoor season.
Turner had another good performance as he threw 45' 2.25" to finish fifth in the shot put and he threw 48' 5.25" in the 35lb. weight throw to finish sixth overall.

Elon - Vince Brown Invitational
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Veronica Day broke her own school record in the triple jump for the third-straight meet with a distance of 38'4" at the Vince Brown Invitational on the campus of Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va. The 4x400-meter relay team, made up of Day, Melissa Turowski, Amy Salek and Jennine Strange, also took home a title with a time of 4:05.11.
Day earned her third top-three finish with a mark of 18'4 ¼" in the long jump. Also finishing in the top-five in the long jump was Monique Vines, who placed fourth, with a distance of 17'5 ¼". Lauren Hawkesworth came in eighth with mark of 16'4 ½".
In the mile run, Emily Tryon and Morgan Denecke finished fourth and fifth with times if 5:15.48 and 5:16.05, respectively.
Amanda Rice was the fourth-best collegian in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.66 seconds.
In the 55-meter dash, Day crossed the finish line in 7.51 seconds, the sixth-best collegiate time. Dana Cataldo finished just behind Day with a time of 7.52 seconds.
In the 400-meter dash, Turowski earned the seventh-best collegiate time, finishing the race in 1:01.63. Amy Salek crossed the line as the eighth-best collegian, running a 1:01.84.
Strange earned the fifth-best collegiate time in the 800-meter run, clocking a 2:19.70.
Rounding out Elon's top finishers was Justine Robertson in the shot put with a distance of 40'3".
Rachel Banner recorded a height of 5'2 ¼" in the high jump, good for a third-place finish. Jordan Lee reached the same height, but on more attempts for a fifth-place finish in the high jump.
The Phoenix tracksters will return to action next weekend when they travels to Lynchburg, Va., for the Liberty Invitational.
UNC Greensboro - Meyo Invitational
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Graduate student Katie Hansen and sophomore Joey Thompson continued their hot streak as they both broke school records for UNC Greensboro at the prestigious Meyo Invitational on Saturday.
With both runners breaking school records last time out, they continued their impressive indoor season in their respective events.
Thompson, competing in the mile, broke the previous school record set in 2006 by over six seconds. His time of 4:10.05 was good enough for 15th place overall in the event.
Running in the 3,000 meters, Hansen broke her own school record that she set just two weeks ago by over 16 seconds. She ran a time of 9:49.42 to come in 22nd place in the 3,000.
The Spartans return to the track on Friday at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Samford - Middle Tennessee Invite
MUFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Samford University track and field team continued its success in his second week of action as won five individual events, broke 13 personal records and one school record at the Middle Tennessee State Invitational Saturday.
The Bulldog men dominated the pole vault again this week after taking the top three spots two weeks ago at the Niswonger Invitational. Samford took six of eight spots in the event while grabbing the top three spots for the second weekend in a row. Patrick Wells won the event with a height of 16-06.00 while Ryan Cook (15-06.00) took second and Zac Epperson (15-05.00) took third. Chas Keithan cleared a personal best of 14-00.00 to grab fifth place while Brandon Bassett cleared the same height to come in sixth. Donald Cooper cleared a personal best of 13-06.00 to take eighth place.
Laura Bedsole recorded a personal best in the women's pole vault with a personal best height of 11-06.00.
Jessica Lucas tied a school record in the women's weight throw with a toss of 37-10.00 while Kyle Kirby broke his own school record set two weeks ago with a toss of 52-01.00 in the men's event.
In the women's high jump, Chenelle Terry took fourth place with a leap of 5-01.00 while Emily Allen grabbed sixth place with a jump of 4-11.00. Allen also placed fourth in the triple jump with leap of 36-03.25. Chas Keithan took second in the men's event with a personal best leap of 6-01.00.
In the men's long jump, Brandon Bassett took seventh place with a jump of 21-03.00 while Elyse Rippe took tenth in the women's event with a jump of 14-08.75.
Christian McGuire took 11th in the women's shot put with a personal best of 30-04.00. Five Bulldog men placed in the men's event beginning with Chris Davis at seventh place with a toss of 45-05.00. Bo Ackerson-Gilroy (37-11.00) and Luke Davis (37-10.00) took 14th and 15th place while Brandon Bassett (34-03.00) grabbed 18th and Donald Cooper (32-07.00) finished in 20th place.
In the women's mile run, Lauren D'Alessio took second place with a time of 5:03.87 followed by Jessica Van Ausdall in third with a personal best time of 5:04.20. Alli Keithan also placed 26th with a personal best of 5:41.93. Cameron Bean won the men's mile with a time of 4:17.60 while Dan Hall placed 19th in the same event with a time of 5:08.23.
Zac Cordner posted a time of 51.13 to place ninth in the 400 meters.
Hillary Neal won the women's 800 meters run with a time of 2:21.75 while Holly Benson took third with a personal best of 2:18.75 and Andrea Nall took 13th with a time of 2:28.91.
In the men's mile, Will Denton finished fifth with a time of 1:55.35 followed by Scott Cope in seventh with a time of 1:58.49.
In the women's 200 meters, Ashley Dance led the Bulldogs with a tenth place time of 26.21. Tatum Moffett took 15th place with a personal best of 26.88 followed by Leslie Graf in 18th place with a time of 27.11. Julie McDonald and McGuire took 21st and 22nd places, respectively, with personal best times of 27.31 and 27.34.
Zac Cordner finished first for the Bulldog men in the 200 meters with a seventh place time of 22.71. Brad Bostic and Bobby Ellison also finished 14th and 15th, respectively, with time of 23.96 and 24.63.
Ina Ables won the women's 3000 meters with a personal best of 10:21.90 while Jillian Klassen recorded a personal best of 10:52.43 to finished 10th place. Christi Gaskill (11:23.57) and Lauren Pilcher (11:30.52) finished 17th and 18th, respectively, while Madison Davis grabbed 21st place with a time of 11:476.03. Blaise Carie took second place in the men's event with a personal best of 8:26.94.
The Samford women took first (3:59.45) and third (4:07.15) in the mile relay while the men took third (3:29.39) and fourth (3:35.67) in the men's event.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 13, as they head to the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
