Divinnie, Purcell Selected Men's Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson senior Tom Divinnie and Appalachian State's Darius Purcell have been named the Southern Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for all meets January 29-30. This marks Purcell's second honor of the season. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

A native of Brentwood, Tenn., Divinnie broke two school records at the Liberty Open. He won the 5K on Friday with a time of 14:44.59 and his time of 4:16.30 in the mile on Saturday also took first place. Both times were personal bests and also currently lead the conference. He also holds the top time in the 3K with a mark set last week.

Purcell, a sophomore from Fayetteville, N.C., was the top collegiate and second overall finisher in the high jump at the Liberty Open. His league-leading leap of 6-10.75 set a personal best and ranks fourth in school history.

The Wildcats return to action February 12 when they compete at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Western Carolina travels to Clemson, S.C. on February 13 for the Tiger Paw Invitational.

Other top field performers included:

Western Carolina's Cornelius Williams, a sophomore from Gastonia, N.C., who won the triple jump at the Clemson Games with a distance of 47-9.0. The league-leading mark improved his indoor personal best by more than three feet.
