Elon Women's Golf to Play Six Spring Tournaments

ELON, N.C. -- The first of six 2010 spring tournaments for the Elon Phoenix women's golf team will get underway on Feb. 21 in Kiawah Island, S.C. as announced by coach Chris Dockrill on Tuesday.  The Phoenix women will look to build on a solid fall outing in which they posted three top-five finishes in four events, including a shared team title at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate.
 
The opening tournament, the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic, will be hosted by Southern Conference rival College of Charleston on Feb. 21-23.
 
Elon will play three events in March, beginning with the James Madison Invitational which will be held in Jacksonville, Fla. from March 7-9.  The Lowcountry Intercollegiate, hosted by SoCon foe Wofford, on March 13-14 in Hilton Head, S.C. and the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic in Wallace, N.C. on March 22-23 will be the other two contests in which the Phoenix compete.
 
The Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by the SoCon's Western Carolina, held on April 5-6 in Wallace, N.C. will be the final tournament before the SoCon Championship.
 
The 2010 SoCon Championship event will be held at the Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C. from April 18-20.
 
Led by junior Tara McFadden, the women's golf team features just three juniors or seniors on its roster.  Seven members of the team are either freshmen or sophomores.
