SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro senior Arsel Kumdereli has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches February 15-21 the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 23).  Kumdereli went 2-0 at No. 2 singles for the Spartans and teamed with Orcun Seyrek at No. 1 doubles for a pair of victories.  UNC Greensboro downed UNC Asheville (7-0) and Charlotte (7-0) last week.  The Player of the Week is awarded by the conference office

Kumdereli downed UNC Asheville's Nocolai Nonnebroich at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 and then topped Charlotte's Charlie Martin-Lecamp, 6-3, 6-4, to move to 5-0 in singles play this spring.  He has not lost a set in singles competition. 

Originally from Mersin, Turkey, Kumdereli and Seyrek won both matches at No. 1 doubles.  They topped UNC Asheville's Jonas Brobeck and Matt Waissen, 8-6 on Saturday.  Sunday afternoon they downed Charlotte's duo of Mike Anders and Krysztof Kwasiewicz, 8-3.

The Spartans are 5-1 on the season.  UNC Greensboro returns to action February 28 when the Spartans host Longwood.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included College of Charleston's Tom Delme, Furman's Sawyer Duncan, Georgia Southern's Alain Garrido and Chattanooga's Ryan Pool.
