SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford senior guard Monica Maxwell broke the school record for career made three-pointers and has been honored as the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games February 9-15.
The Harvest, Ala., native averaged 18.5 points as Samford went 1-1 in two conference games last week. She added 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
In the 73-57 win against Davidson Saturday, Maxwell matched her career high with 22 points. She made eight of her 12 shots from the floor, including 6-of-9 from behind the three-point arc.
Against Appalachian State, Maxwell scored 15 points, all of which came from beyond the three-point line. Her five three-pointers in the game gave her 206 for her career, which broke the previous record of 202.
Maxwell now sits at 999 career points and is one point shy of becoming the sixth player in Samford history to score at least 1,000 points in her career.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday when they travel to Western Carolina.
Other top performers included Appalachian State's Anna Freeman, Chattanooga's Shanara Hollinquest, College of Charleston's Tonia Gerty, Western Carolina's Caitlin Hollifield and Wofford's Kelly Dwyer.
