Neal, Bedsole Honored as Women's Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford junior Hillary Neal and teammate Laura Bedsole have been named the Southern Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for all meets February 5-6. The selections are made by the league's track & field coaches.

A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Neal won the 800m at the Middle Tennessee State Invitational. Her time of 2:12.75 currently leads the conference.

Bedsole, a freshman from Bessemer, Ala., set a personal best in the pole vault with a distance of 11-6. It was the second-best mark in school history.   

The Bulldogs return to action Friday when they compete at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C.  

Other top track performers included:

The Citadel's Micah Wessinger, a freshman from Chester, S.C., who finished third in the 800m at the Vince Brown Invitational in Newport News, Va. Her time of 2:18.59 set a new school record.

UNC Greensboro's Katie Hansen, a graduate student from Portland, Ore., who finished fifth in the 3K heat at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind. Her time of 9:49.42 leads the league by nearly 30 seconds.

Other top field performers included:

The Citadel's Monique Edwards, a graduate student from Kingston, Jamaica, who finished second in the 20-pound weight at the Vince Brown Invitational in Newport News, Va. She posted a toss of 51-0.25.
