Seven Men's Soccer Players Named to All-Region Team

Thomas, Irwin Honored on NSCAA All-South Region Teams

ELON, N.C.
- Elon's Chris Thomas, the Southern Conference Player of the Year, added to a lengthy list of accolades today when he was recognized on the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Men's All-South Region First Team. Thomas was the lone SoCon player to earn first-team honors, being named among players from North Carolina, Duke, South Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast and Central Florida. Senior goalie Clint Irwin was selected to the all-region team for the second consecutive year, earning a spot on the second team.

Thomas had a stellar second year in the maroon and gold, scoring a team-best 10 goals and ranking second in the league. The native of Snellville, Ga. garnered first-team all-conference honors and earned a major SoCon award for the second straight year after being selected freshman of the year in 2009. Thomas netted three game-winners and was honored as SoCon Player of the Month in September after scoring in five consecutive games for the Phoenix. With 20 goals and 43 career points, the striker is just one goal and six points shy of moving into Elon's top 10 in career goals and points. Thomas is only the second-ever Phoenix player to earn first-team all-region recognition.

Irwin is one of the most storied goalkeepers in Elon history, finishing his tenure as the school shutout leader with 22 career clean slates. Although an injury sidelined him for a portion of his final season, Irwin became only the 11th player in league history to be an all-conference performer for four consecutive seasons. Irwin leaves Elon as the single-season (10) and career record-holder in shutouts and ranks third all-time in goals allowed average (0.89). The Charlotte, N.C. native was selected as one of the 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
