SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson forward Sophia Aleksandravicius has been selected the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games played November 30 through December 6.
The sophomore from Pound Ridge, N.Y., scored a career-high 31 points in a 71-62 win over Radford this past week. The forward matched a personal-best in field goals by hitting 11-of-16 shots from the field. She also made nine free-throws in the game, which was also a career-best. She scored 21 of her 31 points in the second half that sparked a decisive 12-1 Wildcats' run to take the lead for good. It was the first time in her career that Aleksandravicius clipped the 30-point mark. She added nine rebounds and six blocks in the contest for Davidson.
Aleksandravicius leads the Wildcats with 18.7 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per contest, and is shooting 52.6 percent from the field. She is averaging 4.42 blocked shots per game. She ranks first in the SoCon in blocks per game, third in scoring and fourth in rebounding.
Aleksandravicius and the Wildcats have two weeks off before they hit the court against Elon on Dec. 20.
Other top performers in the opening week of play were Appalachian State's Sam Ramirez, College of Charleston's Janae Smith, Elon's Ali Ford, Georgia Southern's Krista Tate, UNCG's Amanda Leigh, Chattanooga's Kayla Christopher and Wofford's Rachel Brittenham.
