Wake Forest 84, Furman 35
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Brittany Waters scored 13 points and Wake Forest jumped out to an early lead, taking advantage of 37 Furman turnovers, on the way to an 84-35 win in women's basketball action Wednesday evening at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
The victory was the second straight for Wake Forest (7-5) while the loss was the second consecutive for Furman (6-5), which is in the middle of a season long five-game road swing. The Paladins' next game is at Arkansas on Dec. 28.
Lakevia Boykin tallied 12 points, Erin Hall 11, and Chelsea Douglas 10 points to round out the Deacons' double figure scoring effort.
Three Paladins - Raegan Thompson, Kendra Berry, and Kaitlin Oberg - led Furman with six points each.
Boykin scored six points in an early 9-0 run that gave the Deacons an 11-2 advantage six minutes into the game. From that point Wake Forest steadily padded its lead, stretching it to 19 points at 27-8 on a Sandra Garcia layup with 7:04 to go in the first half and 36-15 on Chelsea Douglas' layup with just over a minute before intermission.
The Deacons outscored Furman 29-5 over the first 13 minutes of the second half, holding the Paladins scoreless for an eight-minute stretch, to build a 65-22 cushion en route to the easy win.
Furman connected on just 11-of-41 field goal attempts (26.8 percent) while Wake Forest hit on 45.2 percent from the field (33-of-73). The Deacons also claimed a 42-33 rebounding advantage.
