SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston's Jeremy Simmons has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played December 14-20 the league office announced Tuesday (Dec. 21). Simmons recorded a double-double as the Cougars topped Charleston Southern 77-69 last week
The Lithonia, Ga., native poured in a career-high 26 points for the Cougars and added a season-high 12 rebounds in the win over the Buccaneers. He made 12-of-20 shots from the floor and added a team-high three steals, two blocked shots and an assist in 34 minutes of action. Simmons scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the first half. It was his seventh career double-double and his fourth 20-point game as a Cougar. The senior pulled down his 600th career rebound in the win and now has 606 boards which ranks fifth all-time at College of Charleston.
The Cougars (8-3, 2-0 SoCon) return to the court Wednesday, December 22 when they host Clemson. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be televised by Fox Sports South.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Donald Sims, The Citadel's Mike Groselle, Georgia Southern's Eric Ferguson, UNCG's Korey Van Dussen, Samford's Josh Davis, Chattanooga's Keegan Bell, Western Carolina's Grey Sumler and Wofford's Noah Dahlman.
