SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson's Brendan McKillop has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played December 7 - December 13 the league office announced Tuesday (Dec. 14). McKillop tied his season high with a game-high 21 points as the Wildcats defeated Charlotte 82-68 at Belk Arena Saturday night.
A senior guard from Davidson, N.C., McKillop tied his career high with seven made three-pointers in the win over the 49ers. He was 7-of-12 from the floor with all of his shots coming from three-point range. McKillop added two assists, a rebound, and one steal. With Davidson holding a three-point lead midway through the second half, McKillop knocked down a triple and assisted on another three-pointer from JP Kuhlman as part of a 14-4 run that moved Davidson out in front 53-40.
McKillop ranks third in the Southern Conference and 34th nationally with 2.9 made triples per game. He is averaging 11.2 points per game through Davidson' first nine games and has played 35.2 minutes per contest, the fifth-highest average in the league. McKillop's 157 career three-pointers rank ninth on Davidson's all-time list.
The Wildcats (5-4, 1-1 SoCon) return to the court Monday, December 20 when they take on St. John's as part of the MSG Holiday Festival in New York City.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included College of Charleston's Andrew Goudelock, Elon's Roger Dugas, Furman's Noah States, Georgia Southern's Eric Ferguson, Samford's Andy King, Chattanooga's Omar Wattad, Western Carolina's Mike Williams and Wofford's Cameron Rundles.
