SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The 2010 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship semifinals and championship will take place this weekend at the Catamount Athletic Complex on the campus of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C.
No. 14 UNCG (17-1-1, 11-0), the SoCon's regular season champion and top seed in the event, will face fifth-seeded Elon (12-7-1, 6-5) Friday at 5 p.m. in the first semifinal. That match will be followed at 7:30 p.m. ET as No. 2 seed Samford (12-5-3, 8-2-1) faces No. 3 seed The Citadel (12-7-1, 7-4).
The championship match will pit the semifinal winners Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET.
UNCG enters the weekend on a 14-match win streak, which rates as the longest in school history and the third-longest current streak in Division I. The Spartans have won six SoCon Tournament titles since entering the league with the last coming in 2006. In the regular season finale on Oct. 28, UNCG rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Phoenix, 2-1.
After defeating College of Charleston 1-0, Sunday afternoon, Elon has reached the semifinals for the first time since joining the league in 2003.
Samford, which is playing in its third consecutive SoCon semifinal, is looking for its first tournament championship in its third year as a member of the conference. The Bulldogs were NCAA tournament participants in 2005 and 2007 prior to joining the SoCon.
The Citadel is in the midst of its best season in school history with a program-best 12 overall wins and seven victories in conference play. In the regular season, Samford downed The Citadel, 7-0.

The winner of the tournament will earn the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. The NCAA selection show will air Monday, Nov. 8 on ESPNU between 4:30 and 5 p.m.
