SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Wofford College football student-athletes Tommy Irvin and Ben Wilmoth have been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District first team.
Irvin is a senior safety from Davidson, North Carolina. This season he has started all eight games and is tied for the team lead in tackles with 38. He is first on the team with three interceptions, which also ranks seventh in the Southern Conference. For his career, he has played in 42 games with 182 tackles and six interceptions. He is majoring in business economics.
Wilmoth, a senior from Arlington, Texas, has started all eight games this season at right guard. He is a key part of the Wofford offense that is currently first in the nation in rushing with an average of 321.88 yards per game. In addition, the offensive line is allowing an average of only one sack per game. For his career, Wilmoth has started 19 games on the offensive line. He is a double major in finance and psychology.
This marks the tenth straight season at least one Wofford football student-athlete has been named Academic All-District. Last year Joe Fornadel was honored. Wofford was the only Southern Conference football institution with two players named Academic All-District.
The ESPN All-District team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wofford is in the third district, which includes schools in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Nominees must have at least a 3.30 grade point average.
The Terriers will travel to Birmingham, Alabama this weekend to face Samford at 3:00 pm ET.
