Wells Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Citadel's Cameron Wells has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played November 23-29 the league office announced Tuesday (Nov. 30).  Wells averaged 23.5 points per game last week as the Bulldogs went 1-1 in non-conference play. 

A senior from Houston, Texas, Wells scored a game-high 25 points as The Citadel downed High Point, 71-63, last Tuesday.  He added seven rebounds, three assists and a steal in 34 minutes of action.  Wells reached the 20-point plateau for the 30th time in his career with 22 points against Coastal Carolina as the Bulldogs fell 72-64 to the Chanticleers.  He scored 15 of The Citadel's 31 points in the second half and dished out five assists.

Wells begins the week just 65 points shy of the school's all-time scoring mark, currently held by Regan Truesdale (1,661).  The senior guard is third in the Southern Conference in scoring (20.0 ppg) and is tied for seventh in assists (3.8 apg).  Wells leads the SoCon in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.7) and has connected on 87.5 percent of his free throw attempts, which is tied for the third-best mark in the league.

The Bulldogs (1-4) return to action Thursday when they open conference play against Georgia Southern at 7:00 p.m. in Charleston, S.C.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Donald Sims, Davidson's JP Kuhlman, Georgia Southern's Ben Drayton III, Samford's Kaylin Johnson, Western Carolina's Mike Williams and Wofford's Noah Dahlman.
