SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Chattanooga forward Whitney Hood has been selected the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games played November 23-29.
The junior from Meridian, Miss., posted three straight 20+ point games with matching career-high 27 point performances. Hood also recorded her first career double-double against Cal State Northridge with 27 points and 12 rebounds. At the CSUN Thanksgiving Tournament, she averaged 24.9 points per game and nine rebounds, and she was named to the All-Tournament team. In wins over Austin Peay and CSUN, Hood's 27-point performances were the third most individuals points scored in the league this season.
Hood leads the league in scoring with a average of 21.2 points per game and is fourth in the league in field goal percentage at 56.7. She leads the SoCon with four 20+ point performances so far this season.
Hood and the Lady Mocs begin conference play when they host Georgia Southern on Dec. 4. The game will be televised on SportSouth at 3:30 p.m.
Other top performers in the opening week of play were Appalachian State's Canesha Edwards, Davidson's Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon's Kelsey Evans, Furman's Kaitlin Murphy, Georgia Southern's Krista Tate, UNCG's Amanda Leigh, Samford's Emily London and Wofford's Jessica Escroza.
