SoCon Student-Athlete Blogs
The student-athlete blog feature is new to the Southern Conference website in 2010-11. As we progress through the year, various sports and SoCon schools will be represented in new blogs series each season. We kicked off this feature with a look inside the life of Samford football player Cory Smith. Our winter sports are now in full-swing, and you can catch up on the action from our newest bloggers: Helping us learn the ins-and-outs of wrestling is Appalachian State 141-pounder Mike Kessler. Our first female blogger is Elon sopomore Kelsey Evans, representing women's basketball, and redshirt senior Bryan Streeter from the Citadel takes us inside SoCon men's basketball.

The Citadel's Bryan Streeter is a redshirt senior forward on the men's basketball team. Originally from Jacksonville, N.C., Streeter is a sports management major. Check back for more about Bryan and to read his blog later this month!

Kelsey Evans is a sophomore forward on the Elon women's basketball team. In the 2009-10 season, Evans led the team in blocks with 55 and averaged 7.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Originally from Raleigh, N.C., the Wakefield HS graduate has been recognized as a team leader both on and off the court. Evans is majoring in human service studies.

Mike Kessler is a redshirt junior from Bay City, Mich. and a 141-pounder for the Appalachian State wrestling team. Off the mat, Mike enjoys wakeboarding and hunting. He is majorig in excercise science. Check back for more about Mike and to read his blog later this month!

Cory Smith is a redshirt senior at Samford University where he serves on the Bulldogs' offensive line as both a center and a guard. Off the field, Cory is a sports reporter and regular columnist for the student paper and serves on both the Samford and the Southern Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Councils. A sports medicine and pre-med major, Cory has recently submitted his applications to attend medical school following his upcoming graduation.
