Former Phoenix Baseball Player Named AFL Player of the Week

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- After a solid summer spending time with both the Rome Braves and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, former Elon outfielder Cory Harrilchak was assigned to the Arizona Fall League's Phoenix Desert Dogs by the Atlanta Braves.  Harrilchak has not disappointed his parent organization and was just named the AFL's Player of the Week for week three.

Harrilchak belted three home runs while hitting .474 (9-for-19) and driving in seven runs last week.  He entered the fourth week of the season ranked third in the league in batting with a .419 average and a .698 slugging percentage.  Through 13 games, Harrilchak is batting .391 with nine runs scored, three homers and two stolen bases.

Harrilchak was a 14th-round pick of the Atlanta Braves in the 2009 draft.  In his two-year minor league career, Harrilchak is hitting .299.  He began his career playing for the Danville Braves and won an Appalachian League crown while there.

In stops with Rome and Myrtle Beach this season, Harrilchak combined to hit .287 with 60 runs scored, 26 doubles, eight triples, three home runs, 47 RBI and 22 stolen bases.
