Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel freshman forward Vanessa Aponte was listed as one of CollegeSoccer360.com's Week-11 Primetime Performers of the Week as announced on Tuesday. Aponte, a native of Orlando, Fla., is among 16 honorees from Division I women's soccer around the country.
Aponte scored the game-winning goal in double overtime of the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Tournament to advance the Bulldogs to the semifinal round. No. 3 The Citadel hosted No. 6 Furman University and downed the Paladins, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon with 1:47 left in the second overtime period. After a Furman hand ball foul, Aponte took the Cadets' free kick and the ball skipped into the bottom of the net past the goalkeeper to end the Paladins' season.
"Vanessa has performed well for The Citadel during her first semester," said head coach Bob Winch.
The Bulldogs (12-7-1, 7-4 SoCon) are competing in the SoCon Tournament for the first time in program history and will play No. 2 Samford on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Cullowhee, N.C.
