SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State's Omar Carter has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played through November 15 the league office announced Tuesday (Nov. 16). Carter made an impressive debut for Appalachian State as he scored 35 points in ASU's 89-86 win at Tulsa last Friday. It was the Mountaineers' first road-opening win since 1993.
Carter, a transfer from Charleston Southern, connected on 10-of-18 from the field, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. He was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, including two key foul shots with 16 seconds left to help the Mountaineers hold on for the victory. He added four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot in the win. His 35-point mark was tied for the 21st highest single-game scoring mark in school history.
The Mountaineers (1-0) return to action tonight night when they host Montreat College at 7:00 p.m.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included College of Charleston's Andrew Goudelock, The Citadel's Cameron Wells, Elon's Jack Isenbarger, Furman's Amu Saaka, Georgia Southern's Eric Ferguson, Samford's Jeffrey Merritt and Wofford's Noah Dahlman.
