Volleyball Players of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference named the volleyball players of the week for the matches played the week of November 8-15.  College of Charleston's Elyse Chubb was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Elon's Sarah Schermerhorn was selected as Defensive Player of the Week.  The Freshman of the Week honors went to Kellie Orewiler of UNCG.  The players of the week are voted on by the league office.

Chubb, a junior from Peachtree City, Ga., hit at or above .500 in both matches during the week in leading the College of Charleston to a 2-0 record and closing out the season with the regular season SoCon Championship.  Against Wofford, the middle blocker recorded nine kills and just one error in 16 attempts to hit .500.  In the season finale against the Paladins, Chubb tallied a team-high 13 kills and a .526 hitting efficiency to improve her hitting percentage on the season to .368.

The SoCon's Freshman of the Week award went to UNCG's Kellie Orewiler.  The Mansfield, Ohio native had 50 digs for UNCG in just three matches over the weekend.  In a mid-week match against High Point, the freshman had 11 digs, but elevated her game in the two SoCon wins on the weekend.  In the sweep of Western Carolina, the libero had a match-high 21 digs and followed it up with 18 digs in a four-set win over Appalachian State.  She averaged 4.55 digs per set on the week, but 5.57 digs per set in the two conference matches.  Orewiler also had four aces on the week.  Orewiler was also named Freshman of the Week in the fourth week of the season.
