COLLEGE PARK, Md. -  Maryland freshman Pe'Shon Howard hit the game-winning shot with three seconds left as the Terrapins escaped the College of Charleston, 75-74, Wednesday night before a crowd of 13,708 raucous fans at Comcast Center.

Senior Andrew Goudelock responded quickly by pushing the ball up the court, but his three-point attempt at the top of the key hit the top of the rim as the clock expired. Goudelock ended the night with his fourth career double-double with a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds.

Maryland (2-0) trailed 68-60 with 8:36 remaining in regulation, but held the Cougars (0-1) without a field goal the rest of the way.

Preseason John R. Wooden Award candidate Jordan Williams registered 26 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Terrapins, who went 5-of-18 from the charity stripe and scored the majority of their points (56-of-75) in the paint behind Williams' play.

The Cougar defense held Maryland deep into the shot clock for most of their first-half possessions. The Terps, known for their pressing defense, committed 18 turnovers as junior Antwaine Wiggins and sophomore Andrew Lawrence combined for five of the team's eight steals.

Goudelock showed there were no limits to his range knocking down several NBA threes including one deep from downtown to give the Cougars their largest lead of the ballgame, a nine-point advantage at the 2:32 mark in the first half, against the defending ACC regular-season champions.

CofC never let the game get out of hand as the Terps managed only a five-point lead throughout the contest. Senior Donavan Monroe added 15 points, while senior Jeremy Simmons contributed 10 in the close loss.

The Cougars will continue their two-game season-opening road swing at Holy Cross (0-0) on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Worcester, Mass. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. (ET).
