SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNCG's Ashley Schnell has been honored as the women's Southern Conference Runner of the Week for her performance during the weekend of October 1-2, the league office announced today.
The junior from Lincoln, Neb., set a UNCG school record with her time of 17:37 at the Greater Louisville Classic. Her time was about 25 seconds faster than the previous record. Schnell finished 18th in a very competitive field that included many of the top teams in the region. Schnell helped the Spartans to a 14th place finish as a team. Schnell has is a music performance major with a 4.0 GPA.
UNCG has a week off before it runs at the Royal Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C., October 15.
Other top performers included:
Brittney Caudle, the sophomore from Middletown, Md., finished 30th in a field of 376 on a rain soaked course at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University. Her time of 21:11 for 6K was just off her personal best set on the same course last year. Caudle led her team to a 17th place finish in the field of 42 teams that included six teams ranked in the top 30. Caudle is an art major.
