SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Regular season champion and No. 16 ranked UNCG has claimed the top seed in the upcoming Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship.

The event begins Sunday, October 31 with first round matches played at the top four seeds in the event. The semifinals and championship will be played on November 5 and 7 at the Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee, N.C.

The Spartans (16-1-1, 11-0), which claimed their SoCon-record fifth consecutive outright regular season championship, entertain No. 8 seed Wofford (7-7-4, 2-5-4) Sunday at 2 p.m.

Samford (12-5-2, 8-2-1) is seeded second and will play host to Davidson (6-8-5, 2-4-5), the 2009 tournament winner, at 7 p.m. ET in Birmingham, Ala.

The Citadel (11-7-1, 7-4), which is in the midst of its best season in program history, earned the third seed in the tournament and will host sixth-seeded Furman (9-7-3, 4-4-3) at 2 p.m.

College of Charleston (9-9-1, 6-4-1) edged out Elon (11-7-1, 6-5) for the fourth spot, earning the right to host the No. 5 seed Phoenix at 1 p.m.

The tournament winner earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championships.
