SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Kate Van Dyke, a sophomore volleyball player at Georgia Southern, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for October 27, the league office announced today.
The Shawnee, Kan., native holds a 3.72 GPA in health education and promotion.
Last weekend, Van Dyke helped the Eagles to a 3-0 conference record with wins over Davidson, Western Carolina and Appalachian State. The setter fueled the Eagles attack with 121 assists for an average of 11.0 assists per set. She also averaged 2.73 digs per set. Van Dyke hit .526 in the three matches, tallying 12 kills. She posted two double-doubles over the weekend and was honored as the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week in volleyball for her efforts.
Other nominees included Appalachian State volleyball player Lauren Swecker, Davidson women's soccer player Jessica Baxa, UNCG women's soccer player Kelsey Kearney and Western Carolina volleyball player Paloma Alvarez.
