GREENVILLE, S.C. - Sophomore Chandler Ambrester hit .474 with 11 kills to lead the Furman volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-18) win over Davidson Tuesday night at Alley Gymnasium.
The Paladins jumped out to an early lead with a 25-13 win in set one after putting together a six point run in the middle of the set ignited by a kill and block by Ambrester and strong serving from freshman Elle Ross. Furman then finished the set with a 5-2 run. In set two, Furman took a 7-1 lead then later used an 8-3 run to push the team's advantage to 18-7. The Paladins rallied at the end of the second set, winning four straight points for a 24-10 lead and taking a two set lead at the break with the 25-11 victory.
The third set remained close with the two teams battling through seven ties to reach 15-15. Furman sophomore Natalie Braun, who ranks 25th nationally with 0.44 service aces per set, then recorded an ace to spark a 10-3 run for the Paladins.
Junior Kelly Kirby led the Paladins with 18 assists and eight digs in the match, while junior Alexis Shaffer hit .667 and added five blocks.
Sarabeth Peele led Davidson (12-10, 3-2 SoCon) with eight kills, and Hayley Lawson recorded a team-high 19 assists. Jennifer Chamblee paced the Wildcats with seven digs.
Furman (10-8, 4-2 SoCon) will face Western Carolina at home Friday at 6 p.m. The Wildcats will return home for the next three matches, starting with Elon at 6 p.m. Saturday.
