SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A pair of senior goalkeepers, Appalachian State's Caroline Clarke and Western Carolina's Caitlin Williams, have been chosen as the Southern Conference women's soccer co-players of the week for all matches from October 4-10.
Clarke notched a pair of shutouts last week, the 19th and 20th of her ASU career, maintaining a clean sheet over 200 minutes of action as the Mountaineers drew with Davidson and defeated Georgia Southern. She recorded nine saves against the Wildcats on Friday night, preserving the tie in double overtime, and followed that with five more saves against the Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
Williams, who now ranks second in Southern Conference history with 28 career shutouts, was a key part in the Catamounts winning their first two SoCon matches of the season. WCU bested Georgia Southern, 2-0, and Davidson, 1-0, as the senior recorded 14 total saves while blanking both opponents.
Other Nominees: Trine Taule (Samford), Hope Atkinson (College of Charleston), Mariana Garcia (The Citadel), Alanna Winsper (Elon), Rachel Shelnutt (Furman), Kelsey Kearney (UNCG) and Emily Bougas (Wofford).
