Elon's Barefoot Inducted in USA South Hall of Fame

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Elon head women's basketball coach Karen Barefoot is one of six former student-athletes that were selected for induction into the inaugural class of USA South Hall of Fame.

"I am honored to receive such an award and am thankful for so many people who played such a big part of my success," Barefoot said of the honor.

Barefoot was a three-time All-American during her basketball career at Christopher Newport University from 1990-94. She was also a four-time first-team performer in what was then the Dixie Conference and earned league Player of the Year honors as a sophomore and again as a senior.

She became the first player, male or female, in NCAA history at any level to score at least 2,000 points and have over 1,000 assists in a career. Barefoot remains Christopher Newport's all-time leading scorer with 2,073 points and holds seven USA South records.

She will be officially honored during the final day of the USA South Basketball Tournament on February 27, 2010.
