SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Jake Robinson, a senior forward for the Western Carolina men's basketball team, has been honored as the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for January 6. It marks his second award during the 2009-10 academic year.
The Canton, N.C., native is majoring in finance and has a 3.405 GPA.
Robinson helped the Catamounts earn two non-conference victories last week. He shot 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the field, including 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from behind the three-point line, while averaging 20 points and three rebounds.
Against UNC Asheville, Robinson scored 25 points, which matched his career high. He scored 15 points in just 15 minutes of play in the Catamounts' game versus Berea (Ky.) College.
Robinson was a 2009 recipient of the league's Coleman Lew Leadership Award.
Other nominees included UNC Greensboro women's basketball player Monique Floyd.
