CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball upset over defending national champion North Carolina on Monday evening has been dubbed an 'Instant Classic' will be shown on ESPN Classic on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
"'Instant Classics' are determined by the people at ESPN programming who deem something to be spectacular and noteworthy enough that fans who may have missed the game and read about it the next day may want to see it," Mark Mandel, of ESPN Communications, said. "Others who saw the game last night on ESPNU may want to see it again."
The Cougars capped a 12-1 run in the final 3:51 of regulation with a three-pointer by junior Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga./Stone Mountain) that tied the score at 73. Charleston never trailed in overtime and pulled out an 82-79 victory for the team's first win over a ranked opponent since beating the No. 3 Tar Heels, 66-64 in 1998.
"We do these Instant Classic games 2-3 times a month so to be selected as an Instant Classic is really something very special," Mandel said.
Other games to be named 'Instant Classics' this year include Xavier's 83-79 double-overtime victory over Cincinnati.
College of Charleston (8-6, 3-0 SoCon) returns to conference play on Saturday with a 7 p.m. game at The Citadel.
