UTC's Hollinquest Honored As Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Chattanooga's Shanara Hollinquest scored 45 points in two games at the St. Peter's Holiday Classic and has been named the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week for all games December 29-January 4. This marks her second award of the season.

The senior from Sylacauga, Ala., averaged 19.3 points and 9.8 rebounds in the Lady Mocs' four victories over that period.

In Chattanooga's 78-69 overtime win against Richmond in the opening game of the St. Peter's Holiday Classic, Hollinquest went 23-of-27 from the free-throw line and scored a game-high 25 points.

The Lady Mocs then defeated St. Peter's 66-50 to claim the tournament title. Hollinquest scored 20 points, and was named the most outstanding player for her efforts.

Hollinquest scored a combined 32 points in Chattanooga's two conference victories against College of Charleston and Georgia Southern.

She now sits in seventh place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,440 career points. Her 740 rebounds rank eighth in school history, and she is only 28 shy of seventh place. Hollinquest also became only the second player in the program to make 400 free throws and needs just 13 more to reach Regina Kirk's 22-year-old school record.

The Lady Mocs return to action Saturday when they travel to Boone, N.C., to face league foe Appalachian State.

Other top performers included Appalachian State's Courtney Freeman, Davidson's Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon's Urysla Cotton, Samford's Emily London, Western Carolina's Emily Clarke and Wofford's Mahagony Williams.
