SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston's Andrew Goudelock has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games December 22-January 4 the league office announced Tuesday (Jan. 5). The Cougars went 3-2 over the holidays, as they picked up wins over SMU, South Carolina State and No. 9 North Carolina. Goudelock averaged 21.2 points and 3.4 rebounds. He made 44 percent of his field goal attempts and connected on 36 percent from beyond the arc. The player of the week is selected by the league office.
The junior guard scored in double figures in all five games for CofC, including 24 points against the ninth-ranked Tar Heels Monday night. Goudelock's triple with 2.2 seconds left sent the game into overtime and capped a 12-1 run for the Cougars over the final 3:51 of regulation. He scored a season-high 29 points against Hawaii December 22 and also poured in 22 points in a win over South Carolina State on January 2. Goudelock scored 14 points and added three rebounds and four assists in CofC's victory over SMU at the Diamond Head Classic on December 24. The Lilburn, Ga., native added 17 assists over the five games.
Goudelock is the league's leading scorer with 18.4 points per game and averages 2.5 made three-pointers per contest. He is second in the league in minutes played (35.4 mpg).
Monday's victory gave the Cougars their third win over North Carolina since 1998, the second most of any non-ACC team aside from Kentucky (5). The Cougars (8-6, 3-0 SoCon) travel across town to face The Citadel Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel's Austin Dahn, Davidson's Brendan McKillop, Furman's Jordan Miller, Georgia Southern's Antonio Hanson, UNC Greensboro's Ben Stywall, Chattanooga's Ty Patterson, Western Carolina's Jake Robinson and Wofford's Jamar Diggs.
