Elon Sweeps Radford, 7-0

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Elon women's tennis team opened the afternoon sweeping all three doubles matches en route to a 7-0 victory against the Radford Highlanders at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech. The win was the first road victory for the Phoenix (3-2) in 2010. Radford dropped to 0-1 on the season.
 
Elon's Laura Graybill and Briana Berne defeated Emerald Lauzon and Sarah Tegner, 8-3, at the number three doubles position. Anna Milian and Elisa Simonetti matched the score in their victory over Petra Dajevic and Ivana Tomaic at the top spot to secure the team doubles point for the Phoenix. Paige Kensrue and Daleen Kloppers completed the Elon sweep, battling out an 8-6 win over Mia Drobnjak and Mirna Matic at the two position.
 
On the singles side, Berne was the first off the court for the Phoenix, improving to 3-2 on the year after a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Matic at number four. In the top singles match, Milian made it 3-0 Elon with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win against Drobnjak. Milian is 3-1 in singles this season. Simonetti clinched the match for the Phoenix, winning in straight sets over Dajevic.
 
Kensrue defeated Tomaic, 6-4, 6-3, at number two, and Graybill won a 6-2, 7-6 (2) decision over Lauzon at number six. Lauren Sessoms completed the Phoenix shutout with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory over Tegner at number five.
 
Elon will return home to challenge Lees-McRae at The Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Thursday, February 6 at 2 p.m.
