Young, Seaman Named Men's Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Western Carolina senior Dominique Young and Samford's Michael Seaman have been honored as the Southern Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for all meets January 22-23. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

A native of Charlotte, N.C., Young took second place and was the first collegiate finisher in the invitational section of the 60m dash at the Niswonger Invitational with a time of 6.79. He also clocked a time of 21.73 in the 200m and finished second. Young ran a split of 48.6 in the 4 x 400m relay, which took first place. All three times currently lead the conference.

Seaman, a sophomore from Bardstown, Ky., set a school record in the pole vault and took first place in the event at the Niswonger Invitational. His mark of 16-6.75 is currently tops in the league.

The Catamounts return to action Friday when they compete at the Clemson Games. Up next for the Bulldogs is the Middle Tennessee Invite on February 6.


Other top track performers included:

Samford's Cameron Bean, a senior from Soddy Daisy, Tenn., who set a set a school record and was the first collegian to finish in the 3000m at the Niswonger Invitational with a time of 8:26.02.

Davidson's Tom Divinnie, a senior from Brentwood, Tenn., who took first place in the 3000m at the UNC Classic with a personal-best time of 8:24.47. His time broke the school record and currently leads the conference.

Western Carolina's Cordell Livingston, a freshman from High Point, N.C., who provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.85 at the Niswonger Invitational.

Appalachian State's Landon Powell, a freshman from Lexington, N.C., who placed in the finals of the 60m dash at the Niswonger Invitational with a preliminary time of 6.98.

UNC Greensboro's Joey Thompson, a sophomore from Columbia, Md., who broke the UNCG school record in the 3000m at the Niswonger Invitational with a time of 8:29.36. He placed seventh overall and was the fourth collegiate finisher.


Other top field performers included:

Appalachian State's Matt Boruff, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., who placed fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 15-7.0 at the Niswonger Invitational.

The Citadel's Quintin Turner, a junior from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., who finished fourth in the 35 pound weight at the UNC Classic. His throw of 51-10.0 was a two-foot personal best and just four inches shy of the school record. He also finished ninth in the shot put with a toss of 46-6.75.
