Elon-Georgia Southern Game at Paulson Moves to September 25
Eagles, other SoCon institutions revise schedules for 2010
STATESBORO, GA ? In cooperation with the Southern Conference, and its member institutions Appalachian State, Elon and Samford, Georgia Southern has revised its 2010 schedule, moving the Elon game at Paulson Stadium to Saturday, September 25th. The game was originally scheduled for October 2nd. Georgia Southern will have an off date on October 2nd and resume the rest of its 2010 schedule as planned.
The SoCon changed its scheduling format to allow institutions to schedule non-conference games prior to conference contests. One of the unintended consequences was the inability to control the number of games a league member might play where its opponent had an open date the week prior. Samford had four instances during the 2009 season and would have had three such situations in 2010.
The SoCon office determined this was an unhealthy burden for one institution to bear in back to back years. With the adjustment, the number of those bye-week situations for Samford will be reduced to two.
Times will be released at a later day. Parents Weekend will be held the weekend of the Wofford game, October 8-10, 2010.
ASU-Samford Moved to Sept. 25
BOONE, N.C. ? The Southern Conference announced on Friday that the 2010 football game between Appalachian State University and Samford, originally scheduled for Oct. 2, will now be played on Sept. 25 at Seibert Stadium in Birmingham, Ala.
The impact on Appalachian’s 2010 slate is minimal. ASU was originally scheduled for a bye on Sept. 25. The Mountaineers’ bye will now occur on Oct. 2, one week prior to its homecoming matchup versus Elon.
