SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Monique Floyd, a junior guard for the UNC Greensboro women's basketball team, has been honored as the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for January 20.
The Fairmont, N.C., native is majoring in leisure services management and has a 3.75 GPA.
Floyd averaged 12.3 points in three games last week and recorded the second double-double of her career in the Spartans' win against Elon. She tallied 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals against the Phoenix. Eight of her rebounds came on the offensive end of the court.
In the game versus Appalachian State, Floyd scored a season-high 21 points, missing her career high by just one. She also added a team-high six rebounds and a season-best five steals.
At Furman, Floyd tallied six points and grabbed three boards.
Other nominees included Appalachian State wrestler Savva Kostis, Davidson women's basketball player Alex Thompson, Georgia Southern women's basketball player Krista Tate, Samford women's basketball player Megan Wilderotter and Western Carolina men's basketball player Brigham Waginger.
