The Citadel's Wells Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Citadel's Cameron Wells has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games January 12-18 the league office announced Tuesday (Jan. 19).  Wells averaged 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and dished out eight assists last week.  The player of the week is selected by the league office.

A junior guard from Houston, Wells scored a game-high 28 points in The Citadel's 56-54 loss at Chattanooga Thursday.  He added six rebounds, three assists and three steals against the Mocs.  Wells then scored 19 points, including 11of the team's final 13, against Samford as The Citadel pulled out a 51-50 win in Birmingham Saturday afternoon.  He added seven rebounds and five assists in the victory.

Wells moved past Demetrius Nelson into ninth place on the school's all-time scoring list (1,266 pts).  He is currently third in the conference with 17.8 points per game and is fourth in the SoCon with 4.1 assists per contest.  Wells also ranks fourth in the league in free throw percentage (.831) and steals per game (1.7 spg).

The Citadel (9-9, 3-3 SoCon) hosts Wofford Thursday night.  The Bulldogs then take on Furman Saturday evening in Charleston, S.C.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Donald Sims, College of Charleston's Andrew Goudelock, Elon's TJ Douglas, Georgia Southern's Antonio Hanson, UNC Greensboro's Ben Stywall, Western Carolina's Kendall Russell and Wofford's Noah Dahlman.
