CofC's Bello Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? College of Charleston’s John Bello has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for all games played through September 7.  Bello helped the Cougars start the season 3-0 with wins over Coastal Carolina (4-3), Air Force (1-0) and Old Dominion (2-0).  The senior scored the game-winning goals against Coastal Carolina and ODU.

Bello’s goal in the 76th minute proved to be the difference against Coastal Carolina as it gave the Cougars a 4-2 lead late in the game.  Against Old Dominion Bello knocked in a rebound in the 23rd minute to give CofC a 1-0 lead. The Sarasota, Fla., native helped anchor a back line that held its opponents scoreless in the two matches over the weekend.  With wins over Air Force and ODU, the Cougars captured the NIKE/Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic.

A senior, Bello’s two goals last week surpassed his career total of one entering the season.

College of Charleston will take part in the Furman Diadora/Spinx Invitational this weekend.  The Cougars will square off against North Florida on Friday before taking on Florida Gulf Coast Sunday afternoon.

Other top performers this week were Appalachian State’s Tyler Reagan, Davidson’s Charlie Reiter and Georgia Southern’s Danny Hall.
