Spartans' Hanners Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro's Catherine Hanners has been named the SoCon Volleyball Player of the Week for September 8, as announced by the conference office today.

The senior from Richmond, Va., is making the transition from libero to outside hitter this season. She recorded 60 kills over four matches last week for a 4.29 kills per game average. UNC Greensboro went 3-1 in those matches, including a 2-1 showing at the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C.

Hanners posted a .326 hitting percentage in the Spartans' four games and added nine service aces. She was named to the Gamecock Invitational All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

UNC Greensboro returns to action against Marshall Wednesday. The Spartans then host Central Florida on Friday.

Also nominated were Appalachian State's Becca Norris, College from Charleston's Cole Dawley, Davidson's Sarabeth Peele, Elon's Caroline Lemke, Furman's Katherine Hall, Georgia Southern's Lauren Claybaugh, Western Carolina's Carrie Minogue and Wofford's Stacy Byrd.
