GREENSBORO, N.C. ? UNC Greensboro head coach Jason Loukides announced his schedule for the upcoming 2009-10 slate on Wednesday. The schedule includes six tournaments, including the UNCG Southern Scuffle, as well as six home duals, highlighted by Virginia in early December.
"I am excited about our schedule this year and the opportunity to wrestle some great competition,” said Loukides. “We feel like this schedule will allow us to be more prepared not only for the Southern Conference Championships but also the National Tournament."
The Spartans kick off the season on Nov. 8 at the Virginia Tech Open before competing at the UNC Pembroke Open the following weekend on Nov. 14.
UNCG then hosts its first home dual of the season as the Spartans host Utah Valley on Nov. 19. That weekend, the Spartans will wrestle at the NC State Open to wrap up competition in November.
The Spartans kick off December at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 4-5 before hosting Virginia for a dual on Saturday, Dec. 19. UNCG will come back from Christmas break to host the seventh annual UNCG Southern Scuffle at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center on Dec. 29-30.
The Old Dominion duals being competition for the Spartans in January as UNCG will face Rider, Old Dominion and Purdue at the duals on Jan. 3. The Spartans will return home to face The Citadel on Jan. 9 before hitting a four-match road trip. UNCG travels to Appalachian State on Jan. 14 before facing Gardner-Webb and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. on Jan. 17. The Spartans travel to Chattanooga on Jan. 24 before returning home to face Davidson on Jan. 27. UNCG will wrap up the month by traveling to the Appalachian State Open on Jan. 30.
On Feb. 2, the Spartans will face Liberty on the road and then later that week will travel to Fairfax, Va. to face American and George Mason in a tri-dual. UNCG will try to make it three-consecutive wins over NC State as they travel to face the Wolfpack on Feb. 10. The Spartans will face VMI on Feb. 13 before celebrating Senior Day against Duquesne on Feb. 19. UNCG will close out the regular season on Feb. 23 as it travels to Campbell.
The Spartans will compete in the Southern Conference Championships on March 6 at Davidson. UNCG will then head to the NCAA Championships on March 18-20 in Omaha, Neb. at the Qwest Center.
