SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Western Carolina's Caitlin Williams has been selected the Student-Athlete of the Week for September 30, as announced by the league office today.
Williams, a junior from Liberty, S.C., is majoring in chemistry and has a 3.765 GPA.
The goalkeeper recorded her 20th career shutout Sunday against Georgia Southern. Williams surpassed Alesha Row to become Western Carolina's career shutout leader. She is the fastest goalkeeper in school history to reach 20 shutouts.
Williams has posted six shutouts this season, including one against regionally-ranked Dayton. Her scoreless streak now stands at 387 minutes for the 2009 season and 386 minutes in conference play, dating back to November 2, 2008. Williams has 48 saves this season and 200 in her career. She is tied for 15th place nationally with a .889 save percentage and her goals allowed average of 0.57 puts her at 25th.
Honors garnered by Williams this season include being named to the preseason all-conference team. She was also named to the Catamount Classic all-tournament team, as well as the Hurricane Cup all-tournament team where she was selected MVP.
Also nominated this week were Appalachian State soccer player Katy Dodd, The Citadel soccer player Nicole Martinoli, Davidson soccer player Charlie Reiter, Elon soccer player Molly Calpin, UNC Greensboro soccer player Lauren Lopez and Samford volleyball player Hillary Fountain.
