DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson Wildcat volleyball team used three hitters in double figures to shut out the N.C. A&T Aggies, 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-8), in a dominating performance Tuesday night in non-conference volleyball action at Belk Arena.

Junior outside hitter Sarabeth Peele, who paced Davidson (3-14) with 15 kills on just 23 swings, was joined by junior middle blocker Jorden Benedict (11) and junior opposite Erin Lupfer (10) in double-digits in kills. Junior setter Hayley Lawson tallied 32 assists, while junior outside hitter Christine Perzinski led the defense with seven digs.

From start to finish, the Wildcats overpowered the Aggies, hitting .434 (45-9-83) as a team to A&T's -.059 (16-20-68).

Janae Mitchell led the N.C. A&T (1-17) with seven kills and hit a team-best .182 (7-3-22). Setter Amber Inman posted 13 assists, and Tiffany Mellette made a team-best seven digs.

Peele was nearly perfect in the opening set, helping the 'Cats to a dominating 25-10 victory with a 6-of-7 performance. Jorden Benedict had six kills in the first set, as the pair accounted for 12 of the team's 17 kills. The Wildcats won the first four points on the opening frame, on kills by Jorden Benedict and Lawson and an ace by Perzinski. The Aggies took a timeout after Davidson opened up an 11-5 lead, but the Wildcats busted the set open with an 8-1 run to take a commanding 19-6 lead. Back-to-back putaways from Peele sealed the 25-10 win.

Davidson got off to a slow start in the second set, falling behind 6-4 before knotting the score at 10 on an A&T service error. The teams traded points for the next several possessions, with the score tied four times, until the 'Cats used a 6-2 run to break a 15-15 deadlock and take control of the set. Peele and Lupfer each contributed five kills as the 'Cats took a 2-0 control of the match with a 25-19 win.

The Wildcats won the third set in dominating fashion, turning an early 10-2 lead into a 15-4 margin. Jennifer Chamblee served seven straight points to pull ahead 22-4, before securing the match with a 25-8 win. Peele was a perfect 4-for-4 in the final set, and Ariel Ley was nearly as good, hitting 4-for-5.

Davidson will complete its non-conference play with a 7 p.m. match at Gardner-Webb Friday night before a trip to Southern Conference foe Samford for a 2 p.m. (CT) match Sunday.

USC Upstate 3, Wofford 1

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford volleyball team fell to cross-town rival USC Upstate in four sets (14-25, 25-14, 17-25, 28-30) on Tuesday.

In the first set, USC Upstate jumped out to an early 6-1 lead before a service error stopped the run. The Spartans continued to build their lead, however, and Wofford was unable to overcome a deficit as large as 11 points as USC Upstate took the first set by a score of 25-15.

Wofford recovered in the second set, taking an early 12-5 lead en route to a 25-14 lead. The Terriers faltered again in the third set, allowing USC Upstate to take a 25-17 victory. The third set saw 13 ties and seven lead changes before the Spartans managed a 30-28 win.

Morgan Thomas led the Spartans with 16 kills and only three errors for a .433 attack percentage. Setter Emily Sanders recorded a double-double with 20 assists and a team-high 13 digs.

Wofford was led by junior Stacy Byrd's 14 kills. Byrd also notched a double-double with 10 digs, while senior Shanna Hughes led the team with 14 defensive saves.

With the loss, Wofford falls to 14-4 on the season while USC Upstate falls to 4-12 overall. The Terriers will travel to Charleston, S.C. to take on The Citadel on Friday and College of Charleston on Saturday in their first conference road trip of the season.
