Elon's Calpin Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon's Molly Calpin has been named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played September 22-28.  Calpin netted two game-winning goals last week as Elon topped Wofford (2-1) and Furman (2-1) in conference play.

With the score tied 1-1 against Wofford Friday night, Calpin tallied the game's final marker in the 77th minute to lift the Phoenix past the Terriers.  The Alpharetta, Ga., native scored with just 17 seconds remaining in the second overtime to give the Phoenix a 2-1 victory over the Paladins Sunday afternoon.  It was the first time in the program's history that Elon knocked off Furman.

Calpin leads the team with three goals and six points on the season.  All three of her goals this season have been game winners.

The Phoenix (6-2-1, 2-0) continue league play this week with matches at Georgia Southern (Oct. 2) and Davidson (Oct. 4).

Other top performers this week were Appalachian State's Caroline Clarke, College of Charleston's Alyssa Bearden, The Citadel's Whitney Nave, UNC Greensboro's Lauren Lopez, Western Carolina's Caitlin Williams and Wofford's Maggie McLaughlin.
