SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson's Alex Caskey has been named the Southern Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played September 22-28. Caskey helped the Wildcats earn a come-from behind victory over High Point (3-2) last Tuesday. He then tallied five points in Davidson's 4-1 win over then-No. 25 South Carolina.
Trailing High Point, 2-0, Caskey jump-started the Davidson offense with a goal in the 51st minute. Teammate Yannick Pilgrim scored the next two goals to give the Wildcats the victory. Caskey was in on each of Davidson's first three goals against South Carolina. He picked up an assist on Pilgrim's goal in the 23rd minute before scoring one of his own on a penalty kick. Caskey then headed in a ball past the South Carolina keeper to stake Davidson to a 3-0 lead over the Gamecocks. His five-point night was a career high. The Dunwoody, Ga., native was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week for his efforts.
Caskey is tied for the league lead with five goals and leads the conference with 31 shots. He is tied for 24th place nationally with 0.71 goals per game and tied for 23rd with 1.71 points per contest.
The Wildcats host College of Charleston Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the conference opener for both squads. Davidson then visits Georgia Southern Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
