Cross Country Teams Compete at Citadel Invitational

Furman Men, Women Win Citadel Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Furman men's and women's cross country teams won the Citadel Invitational, held Saturday at James Island County Park in Charleston, S.C.  Paladin sophomore Chloe Kowalski won the women's meet, posting a time of 18:30.67 on the 5K course, and Paladin junior Charles McGoogan won the men's 8K meet with a time of 26:22.38.

Junior Jenna Callahan placed second with a time of 19:00.44, and senior Brittany Johnson finished fourth in 19:26.96.  Sophomore Tricia Rossettie was sixth, completing the course in 19:38.29, and sophomore Hannah Morgan placed ninth with a time of 19:43.33.  Sophomore Charlotte Coggins rounded out the Paladin scorers, placing 11th after recording a time of 19:45.65.

For the men's team, sophomore Lee Gilmer placed fourth with a time of 26:42.12, and freshman Wilkerson Given was sixth after finishing in 26:51.70.  Sophomore Chris Caldwell was ninth with a time of 27:09.99, and sophomore John Miller placed 12th with a time of 27:30.26.  Sophomore James Sutterfield finished 21st, completing the course in 28:10.31.

The Paladins will host the Furman Invitational on Oct. 10 in Greenville, S.C.

College of Charleston Men, Women Finish Second at Citadel Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C - The College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams placed second at The Citadel Invitational on Saturday at the James Island County Park in Charleston.

For the women, Erin Stoddard was the top finisher on the day, placing third in a time of 19:18. Callen Powers finished eighth in 19:39, while teammate Becky Stewart finished right behind Powers in ninth position. Alyssa D'Orazio rounded out the top women's finishers on the day for the Cougars placing 15th in a time of 19:59.

For the men, Trevor Sprague was the top finisher, placing third in a time of 26:33. David Thomas ran the 8K course 26:47 to finish fifth, while Christian Bailey finished seventh in a time of 26:59. Kelly Toomes rounded out the top finishers on the day, placing 18th in a time of 27:55.

The Cougars return to action on Oct. 2nd at the Charlotte Invitational.

Georgia Southern Places Third at Citadel Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Georgia Southern cross country team finished third out of six teams in the Citadel Invitational. The Eagles recorded their third straight top half finish.

Kassi Lee (Elberton, Ga.) paced the Eagles, finishing 24th with a new season best time of 20:34.08. Brittani Martin (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Sara Curry (Lawrenceville, Ga.) crossed the line right behind Lee. Martin finished 25th with a time of 20:46.09. Curry set a new personal best with a mark of 20:46.09.

Azura Robillard (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) finished just behind the Eagles' leading trio of runners. Robillard improved on her time from the Elon Invitational and placed 29th with a time of 20:59.33.

Shauntel Jennings (Stone Mountain, Ga.) improved on her time from the Elon Invitational and finished 31st with a time of 21:08.89.

Heather McAllister (Cartersville, Ga.) continued the trend and improved on her time from the last meet. McAllister finished 32nd with a time of 21:24.35.

Leah Bradley (McDonough, Ga.) finished three places behind McAllister with a mark of 21:46.11. Morgan Jefferson (Villa Rica, Ga.) crossed the line right behind Bradley with a time of 21:47.49.

The final group of Eagles finished 39th, 40th and 41st. Talisha Rice (Stockbridge, Ga.) set a new personal best and shaved nearly 50 seconds off her time. Rice finished 39th with a time of 22:06.40. Amanda Tennyson (Grayson, Ga.) finished 40th with a mark of 22:22.14. Molly McBrearty (Macon, Ga.) finished 41st with a time of 22:52.45.

The Eagles return to action October 2nd at the Charlotte Invitational.

The Citadel Men Finish Third, Women Fourth at Citadel Invitational

Charleston, S.C. - The Bulldog men finished third for the second consecutive year with an average time of 27:26.28 and 57 points, while the women placed fourth with 109 points and an average time of 21:06.96 as The Citadel hosted the 29th Annual William Wilson Citadel Invitational on Saturday at James Island County Park in Charleston, S.C.

Four Bulldogs finished in the top 15 with senior Brendan Kight leading the way with his eighth place finish recording a time of 27:07.70. Freshman Kyle Keene finished 10th with a time of 27:19.75 and Chris Fallis followed posting a time of 27:22.46 for 11th place. Freshman Atom Young rounded out the top 15 with his 13th place finish with a time of 27:30.70.

Freshman John Gatewood and Nathan Jackson had a successful performance to score The Citadel's last points. Gatewood finished 16th with a time of 27:52.25 and Jackson recorded a time of 27:53.28 to finish 17th.

For the women, senior Katheryn Gatewood came in at 21st to record the first points for the Bulldog women with her time of 20:21.34. Senior Natalie Wolin had a time of 20:48.22 to finish 27th and Suzanne Gay followed right behind finishing 28th with a time of 20:54.63. Freshman Micah Wessinger crossed the finish line 34th with a time of 21:40.75 and Sarah Stierwalt posted a time of 21:49.15. Caitlyn Lees finished off the top 50 for the women coming in at 48th with a time of 24:48.73.
