Elon's Irwin Honored as Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon's Clint Irwin has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week for September 23, the league office announced today.

The Charlotte, N.C., native is majoring in political science and has a 3.37 GPA.

A junior goalkeeper, Irwin had three saves in Elon's 2-0 shutout of Clemson, the first time in school history that the Phoenix defeated the Tigers. He followed that performance with three more saves in a 3-0 shutout at East Tennessee State. Elon has recorded four straight shutouts, which ties the school record.

Irwin has 13 shutouts in his career, the third most in Elon history. He ranks 23rd in the NCAA with a 0.48 goals allowed average.

Also nominated this week were The Citadel football player Jordan Gilmore, UNCG cross country runner Joey Thompson and Chattanooga volleyball player Courtney Barnes.
