SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Elon’s Chris Thomas has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for all games played September 15-21. Thomas helped the Phoenix pick up two shutout wins over Clemson (2-0) and East Tennessee State (3-0) last week.
The freshman forward scored the game-winning goal in Elon’s victory over Clemson last Wednesday. His goal in the 28th minute off an assist from Erfan Imeni helped the Phoenix pick up their first ever win over the Tigers. Thomas followed that performance with a goal and an assist at East Tennessee State. He recorded an assist on Daniel Street’s goal which gave Elon a 2-0 lead in the second half. Thomas then added a marker of his own just two minutes later.
Thomas finished the week with five points in two games. He ranks fifth in the conference and leads the Phoenix with seven points this season. His three goals this year is tied for the second-highest total in the league.
The Phoenix visit Wake Forest Wednesday night. Elon opens conference play at home Saturday when the Phoenix take on Georgia Southern.
Other top performers this week were College of Charleston’s Zach Prince, Davidson’s Charlie Reiter, and Furman’s Debola Ogunseye.
